Premature babies: Stats and facts

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), preterm birth happens when a baby is born before 37 weeks of pregnancy are complete. Premature infants have a lower birth weight and need extra support when it comes to staying warm, breathing and feeding. The Grey Nuns Community Hospital and the Misericordia Community Hospital in Edmonton have Neonatal Intensive Care units with specialized equipment and highly trained staff who work with parents to ensure these fragile babies get healthy and strong before going home.
